Quick Tips to Uncovering the Best Bad Credit Credit Card

Many people find themselves asking the question, how can I get a credit card when I have bad credit?  The answer: there are several options available to you (just like loans for people with bad credit).  This may be a good avenue take when trying to repair your less than perfect credit.  Keep in mind though, with less than perfect credit, you will not have as many options opened to you that someone with good credit would have.  Given time, you will have those same options.

1. Do your research
When most people think of a credit card they think of either a department store or a major credit card, such as Visa or MasterCard.  Think again.  There are several cards out there.  A good one to start with is a gas card.  Most major gas companies offer these as an incentive to their customers.  Just remember, when you fill your tank, put that money aside so that you can pay that bill at the end of the month.  By doing this, it will slowly build your credit.

2.Check with you local bank
By checking with your local bank or credit union you are supporting your local community.  This is a step for you to allow them to see your financial records and have access to any questions they may have regarding your financial status.  Although they may start you with a low credit limit, with time you will eventually build that number up.

3. Look online
If you are unable to get approved for a conventional credit card, the route you may want to take is a secured credit card.  What this entitles you to is simple; you deposit money into an account (credit card deposit) and use the card.  Similar to a debit card, but with advantage.  The credit card company will report to the credit bureaus every three months.  Every time they report a good mark, your credit score will raise a small amount.

Before you make any decision, you need to weigh, first off, do you need a credit card?  In today’s society a credit card may seem necessary, but if your bank or financial institution offers debit cards you may be better off with that.  Some people must face the fact that you can live life without a credit card.  Another thing to consider when weighing your options…..a debit card has no late fees but when you have a credit card, not only are there fees for going over the limit, but there are also late fees, which can be astronomical!  Should you choose to get a credit card for bad credit, be careful and be responsible!
