Repossession and Auto Financing

So, your car was repossessed and now you need to find auto financing.  Most people don’t know where to start looking and become desperate (often turning to loans for people with bad credit).

Even with a repossession auto financing is one of the easiest to qualify for.  The reason for this is simply the finance company has built in collateral.  If you do not make your payments then they take your car back, sell it and if there is any balance still owing, they will get a judgment against you.  Very little risk is taken on the part of the finance company, because in the end they get their money from you.

The first thing you should do when looking for a company that will finance you is to figure out how much you can afford.  Most auto financing companies will require some money out of pocket on your behalf.  What I have found was they usually ask for a minimum of $500.  The nice thing about his though is they will work with you.  I have walked the road of getting a vehicle repossessed and no it is not a fun one.

With a little research I found a reputable company that was willing to give me the chance I needed to get back on my feet.  After filling out an application online, a salesman contacted me.  I told him what I was looking for and also told him I wasn’t going to waste my time or his if he could not guarantee that they could finance me.  After a few day I c=got a call back with a guarantee in writing that they would finance me.  All I had to do was come up with $500 as a down payment.  My heart sunk.  Then he told me they would work with me and they did.  When I got there, they had the vehicle I was looking for, even in the right color.  We sat down and talked price.  He gave me the price I was hoping for and then told me I could write him a couple different checks to cover the down payment.

In my situation I was able to make two payments in the amount of $250 at the beginning of the next two months.  Then my payments started.  It all worked out and now I drive the vehicle I want.

Working with a dealership this way worked well for me.  When I ran into trouble with my payments all I had to do was call them and let them know.  They were more than willing to work with me and in the end, not only did they have a satisfied customer but they got their money too.  The biggest thing you need to remember when someone gives you that second chance is to keep a good line of communication open with them.  If they think you are not going to pay, they will repossess your vehicle putting you into a worse situation than when you started.
